This post is personal to me because it highlights a big part of my “why” and I couldn’t’ resist sharing these two!  As a child growing up, my parents would always bring along their Cannon film camera.  Three decades later I have album upon album, filled with memories, all in chronological order thanks to my mom!  As a mom of two littles (and a Vancouver Children’s Photographer) my favorite subjects are my kids.  They also tend to be the highlight of my personal social media feeds.  A constant reminder to me (and those following along) how quickly they are growing and changing.  Capturing each milestone, birthday, and adventure is important if you ask most parents, and I am no exception.

It is truly a heartwarming moment now as I see my own children’s excitement as they look at the images of our family displayed around our home.  It’s easy to snap countless photos with our phones, letting them add up over time, often forgotten.  There is something powerful about the tangible, displaying images that remind us daily of those we love.  So each year I slow down, taking the opportunity to create memories, all while having a fun adventure my children will remember for years to come.  With this purpose in mind, as a Vancouver Children’s Photographer my ultimate goal is to create this same experience for my clients.

This fall we had some amazing sunshine and warm evenings, so as the leaves began to show their fall colors it was time for an adventure!   In our house, overalls have been renamed “farmer pants”, as both kids love everything about the farm, particularly the tractors!  Photographing children, especially young mobile ones, can be quite a feat, so making it a fun adventure helps bring out their personalities and expressions that are true to them.  No matter the season, the Historic Fort Vancouver always provides a fun adventure and beautifully diverse backdrop.

The beauty of childhood and capturing it all, is in part, letting them explore their surroundings a bit.  While it is so easy to want to plop them down for that “perfect pose”, this sweet moment reminded me that easing in can lend itself to some beautiful interactions.  Big brother telling his little sister all about being a farmer, and why wearing boots and “farmer pants” was important.

This beauty was content to soak in the warm sunshine while her brother took off to explore.

If you ask him, being a farmer is a “big” job.  Even at four, he is all about business and ready for his own tractor!

What I truly love about his personality, is the ability to be serious one minute and then show his fun-loving sense of humor the next.

After inspecting fences, looking for apples in the trees, and chasing a few birds, they were ready for a break.

Even at two and four, these siblings have a strong bond.  They are definitely not immune to the normal sibling rivalry, but truly have each other’s back when it matters.

This sweet moment was promptly followed by the simultaneous request for the promised “suckers”.   I can still get away with sugar-free lollipops and they were burning a hole in my pocket!  It was declared a “dessert picnic” as the sun kept us warm readying itself for a stunning exit.

“Hey sister! Hold my hand and come look over here.”  In her sweet little voice she says, “Ok!”  My mama heart definitely melted a bit as I watched them explore a bit more.

While they are just figuring out life, this final image captures the beauty of each and their personalities.  She will always have an independent streak, knowing exactly what she wants.  He will always be there to look after her with his strong, yet gentle spirit.
